Sridhar Rajan Jagannathan


Sridhar rajan Jagannathan (‘Sri’) from India, started as an engineer focused on mathematical analysis of biological systems. He ventured into neuroscience with clinical work in Maastricht University on patients with psychogenic seizures which was published in the “Journal of Psychiatric research”. Spurred by this, he did research work in cognitive neuroscience with a focus on the visual system at Donders Institute in Nijmegen. The resulting work culminated in a Master’s degree from Technical University of Eindhoven and a minor in Cognitive neuroscience from Radboud University in 2013. After his master’s education, he worked as a research assistant at Oxford. At Oxford, he focused mainly on methodological research for processing simultaneous EEG-fMRI data. After his stint at Oxford, he was awarded a Gates Cambridge Scholarship to start his PhD program.

Research Interests

At the heart of my science, I aim to understand the mysterious phenomenon of consciousness. My research involves manipulating one of the dimensions of consciousness (arousal level) either in a natural sleep-awake process or through sedation to understand its effect on attentional processes. Furthermore to develop a computational model of how arousal impacts behaviour and function. Potential clinical applications include development of prognosis markers for stroke recovery. I use behavioural measures, Electroencephalography (EEG), Functional magnetic resonance imaging to probe my research question.
