Research Interests

My research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of associative memory formation and persistence. In particular I am investigating the consequences of reactivation of a fully consolidated associative memory which can result in two opposing processes, reconsolidation and extinction. Both processes have distinct molecular signatures but at present, the transition from reconsolidation to extinction processes is little understood at the molecular or systems level.

I am using behavioural, pharmacological and molecular techniques to study the dynamic molecular landscape, particularly in the basolateral amygdala and medial prefrontal cortex, in order to better understand the mechanisms governing the maintenance or reduction of a maladaptive memory in the context of drug addiction.
